The varmint shield permits a proactive approach to reducing and or eliminating unschedule power outages due to animals. Whenever field service personnel are working in a critter infested area it takes little time to grab a varmint shield and snap around the high voltage bushings of the transformer. The unique design permits the unit to be installed with a shotgun stick without the need to drop service or expose the lineman to energized equipment for installation. The design of the varmint shield is not intended to prevent critters from running their rounds but will prevent them from stretching and simultaneously touch the primary and metal case of the transformer.

The USVS-002 varmint shield is molded from a UV stabilized and flame retardant polymer to provide many years of maintenance free in field service. The unique design will not trap or accumulate fallen leaves and has no spring components to break off, especially during cold weather installations. The varmint shield will handle all distribution system applications and can simultaneously address both high voltage bushing and adjacent arrestor bushing. Molded in diameter lines provide an accurate and easy cutting for in-field installation on bushing diameters ranging from 1 3/4" through 6".
